The gatehouse once marked the entrance to the electoral hunting ground. Elector Johann Georg I had the area enclosed by a seven-kilometer wall in 1624. You can still see some remains of the wall today. In the middle of the 18th century it was no longer used as a hunting ground, and the forest behind it is now a popular recreational area.

In 1523, Elector Friedrich the Wise laid it out as a game reserve and expanded it several times
In 1624 it was fenced in by Elector Johann Georg I with a 7km long wall (remnants of the wall are still preserved today)
Middle of the 18th century the use as electoral hunting ground ended.
Size of the forest area today approx. 100ha
