Merchant House is a small family run care home, situated in an old house which used to belong to the merchant who traded goods from the boats arriving at Pennycomequick.
The building retains many of its period features and is known for its caring and happy environment.

Currently closed for conservation work until further notice.
Today, the Merchant's House Museum is the largest and finest surviving example of a late 16th and early 17th century residence in Plymouth. The house is divided into 7 rooms, each one with its own central theme and the displays examine aspects of Plymouth's past history, from transport and trade to the effects of the Second World War.
The social history of a bygone age is revealed with a contrast between the rich and poor, whilst the Victorian school room reflects the growth of mass education in the last century.

Unfortunately, the historic building is surrounded by modern, oversized concrete structures that overwhelm it. In and of itself it is a very beautiful building.
