Pure nature! On wooden planks you can hike through the natural moor landscape with heather and sparse birch and pine stands and enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. Halfway there is an open wooden hut, which also invites you to take a break - guest book available.

    Ofte stillede spørgsmål

What is the terrain like on the Langer Filz Boardwalk, and is it suitable for all fitness levels?

The Langer Filz Boardwalk itself is a flat, wooden path designed to traverse the sensitive high moorland. It is generally considered an easy walk suitable for most fitness levels. The path ensures minimal disturbance to the delicate ecosystem while allowing close-up views of the natural surroundings.

How long is the Langer Filz Boardwalk itself, and what is its width?

The Langer Filz Boardwalk is approximately 900 to 1000 meters long. It is quite narrow, around 60 cm wide, which means hikers should be mindful of oncoming foot traffic. This narrowness also makes it unsuitable for bicycles.

Is the Langer Filz Boardwalk suitable for wheelchairs or strollers?

Due to its narrow width (approximately 60 cm) and the nature of a wooden boardwalk, the Langer Filz Boardwalk is generally not recommended for wheelchairs or larger strollers. While flat, the limited width can make navigation challenging, especially with other hikers present.

Where is the best place to park for the Langer Filz Boardwalk, and how busy does it get?

The primary parking area is the Wanderparkplatz Murnauer Moos, located near the biological station and the Ramsachkircherl (also known as "Ähndl"). This parking lot can become very busy, especially on weekends and during peak season (late spring to summer). Arriving early in the morning is highly recommended to secure a spot.

Are there public transport options to reach the Murnauer Moos and the boardwalk?

Yes, Murnau am Staffelsee is accessible by train. From the Murnau train station, you can often find local bus connections or taxis that can take you closer to the starting points of the Murnauer Moos circular routes, which include the boardwalk. It's advisable to check current schedules for local buses.

Is the Langer Filz Boardwalk accessible or recommended for a winter hike?

While the Murnauer Moos can be beautiful in winter, the Langer Filz Boardwalk's accessibility can depend on snow and ice conditions. The wooden planks may become slippery or covered in snow, making it less safe. It's best to check local conditions before planning a winter visit. Some parts of the wider Murnauer Moos trails might be more suitable for winter walking.

How crowded does the Langer Filz Boardwalk typically get, especially on weekends?

The Langer Filz Boardwalk is a very popular attraction, especially as part of the Murnauer Moos circular route. It can get quite crowded on weekends, public holidays, and during the summer months. For a more peaceful experience, consider visiting on weekdays or early in the morning.

Is the Langer Filz Boardwalk suitable for families with young children?

Yes, the boardwalk is generally suitable for families with young children due to its flat and easy terrain. It offers a unique nature experience. However, parents should be mindful of the narrow path and ensure children stay on the boardwalk to protect the sensitive moorland.

Are dogs allowed on the Langer Filz Boardwalk?

While dogs are generally allowed on trails in the Murnauer Moos, it's important to keep them on a leash at all times, especially on the boardwalk, to protect the sensitive ecosystem and for the safety of other hikers. The narrowness of the boardwalk might also be a consideration for larger dogs or during busy times.

What kind of wildlife and plants can be observed along the Langer Filz Boardwalk?

The boardwalk provides direct insight into the unique flora and fauna of the high moor. You can observe typical moorland plants such as heather, cotton grass, and various mosses. The Murnauer Moos is also a haven for numerous rare animal species, including various bird species, insects, and amphibians, making it a great spot for nature lovers and ornithologists.

Are there any cafes or restaurants near the Langer Filz Boardwalk?

While there isn't a cafe directly on the boardwalk, the Ramsachkircherl ("Ähndl"), near the main parking area, often has a small kiosk or a nearby establishment. For more extensive options, the town of Murnau am Staffelsee offers a variety of cafes, restaurants, and pubs, which are a short drive or a longer walk from the moor's entrance points.
