The first time the Zwalmmolen appeared in the history books was in 1227, when it was still the property of St. Peter's Abbey in Corbie. Originally, the mill mainly processed wheat, linseed, chicory, corn, rice and even tobacco.
This traditional water mill drew its power from the Zwalmbeek, which with its current propelled an impressive technical system in the interior. A fine example of craftsmanship that is almost a millennium old. However, the Zwalmmolen is not the only mill in the area.
