Poschwitz Castle is located near the Skat town of Altenburg, where the game of Skat was invented. The former moated castle was first mentioned in a document at the end of the 13th century.

It was here that the game of Skat was invented in 1813 in a group of scholars led by the lord of the castle, Hans Carl Leopold von der Gabelentz.
The castle has a park that measures around 500m².

The origin of the castle was a moated castle from the 13th century, which burned down at the beginning of the 16th century. At the end of the 16th century, today's palace was built in the Renaissance style. Later, in the years 1842-1847, a wing in the neo-Gothic style was added. It is historically worth mentioning that the game of Skat was invented here in 1813.
