Vandring

The ancient half-timbered building is the oldest residential building in Rügen and was built around 1538 after the big city fire in Bergen. Today it houses the registry office and tourist information. After the reconstruction of the half-timbered house, it is now possible again to celebrate the marriage in the solemn marriage room of the Benedictine House. The ambience is very similar to that of a farmer's room, whereas the furniture is kept very modern.

The "Benedix House," a prominent landmark in the town center, is a half-timbered house that was built before or around the 16th century (approximately 1630; the exact date is unknown). Whether the Roman numeral "MDXXXVIII" (1538), added later to the beam, indicates the year of construction is not known. What is certain, however, is that it is one of the oldest half-timbered houses on the island of Rügen.

The house owes its name "Benedix" to the family that last inhabited it.

This was the last generation of a baker family named "Benedix."
