The so-called "Black Forest Cathedral" was inaugurated in 1783 as an abbey church with what was then the third largest church dome in Europe. The dome - diameter 36 meters, height 63 meters - is still one of the largest in Europe. The architect Pierre Michel d'Ixnard built the building based on the model of the Pantheon in Rome. The proportions of the building are perfectly coordinated.
