In 1978, this exceptional heritage was doomed to abandonment and complete destruction. This is without counting on the determination of a few inhabitants of Havré who came together and founded a non-profit organization “Les Amis du Château des Ducs d’Havré”: they will save it from disaster.

The castle and its exhibition rooms can be visited from February to the end of November, Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition to the castle, its gardens are remarkable and unique in the region.

The castle and its exhibition rooms are generally open from February to the end of November, typically Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It's always a good idea to check the official VisitMons website for the most current opening times and any potential entry fees, as these can vary for special events or guided tours.

Are there specific walking trails or routes around Château d'Havré, and what is their difficulty?

Yes, there are numerous walking routes around the castle and through the village of Havré. The terrain is generally easy to navigate, making it suitable for leisurely strolls. While the intro mentions easy navigation, some routes might involve varied surfaces within the castle grounds or village paths. For detailed routes and their specific difficulty ratings, hikers can explore options on platforms like komoot.

What notable landmarks or natural features can be seen during a visit to Château d'Havré?

Beyond the impressive castle architecture, visitors can explore the quadrangle inner courtyard, a donjon topped with an onion-shaped dome, and an ogival chapel. A remarkable 14th-century sandstone cellar with two galleries is also a highlight. The extensive gardens, including the fragrant 'Jardin des Sens' and a 6,000 m² rose garden with nearly 100 varieties, are significant natural features.

Is Château d'Havré suitable for a winter visit, or are there specific seasonal considerations?

While the castle and exhibition rooms are generally open from February, the best time to fully appreciate the gardens is during spring and summer when the flowers, especially the rose gardens, are in full bloom. A winter visit might offer a different, more stark beauty, but the vibrant floral displays would be absent. The castle also hosts an artisanal Christmas market, which could be a unique winter experience.

Is Château d'Havré family-friendly, and are dogs allowed on the premises?

Château d'Havré is considered family-friendly, offering a historical and natural setting for all ages. The gardens provide ample space for children to explore. For accommodation, Mons provides numerous options ranging from hotels to guesthouses.

How long does it typically take to walk around Château d'Havré and its gardens?

The time required for a visit can vary based on individual interest. A comprehensive exploration of the castle's architecture, exhibition rooms, and a leisurely stroll through the extensive gardens, including the rose garden and 'Jardin des Sens', could easily take 2 to 3 hours.
