During the Weimar Republic (1919-1933), the city had a memorial built for the 9,855 soldiers from Nuremberg who were killed in the First World War. The design was by the architect Fritz Mayer. The arcade hall is adjoined by a rectangular courtyard, bordered on both sides by a row of plinths with flame bowls. The liberal mayor Hermann Luppe inaugurated the Hall of Honor in 1930

This memorial was erected during the Weimar Republic as a memorial to the soldiers who died in World War I and was completed and inaugurated in 1930. As early as the Reich Party Congress in 1929, the unfinished Hall of Honor was included and misused by the National Socialists in their cult of the dead. After the end of the war, the area was redesigned as a park and the Hall of Honor is a memorial and memorial for the victims of the First and Second World Wars and the National Socialist tyranny (1933-1945).
