Halfway up the Ringberg, with a view of Lake Tegernsee and the Kreuther Valley, Duke Luitpold in Bavaria laid the foundation stone for Ringberg Castle in 1912. In around six decades, he - himself a doctor of art historian and trained in painting - created the building in its current form together with his childhood friend, the painter Friedrich Attenhuber.
