There are a total of three medieval suburbs in Minden, the fishing town is one of them. The port was located at this point until 1910 and the fishermen and ship millers settled in the fishing town.

The fishing town is a medieval core of the East Westphalian town of Minden and is located on the left bank of the Weser. The town wall was only built around the suburbs in the 16th century. The fishing town was later included in the defense system of the Minden Fortress and was protected from the Weser and the hinterland with a fortress wall. Today only the former fortress wall built in 1830 on the Weser with slits for gun and cannon defense remains.
