    The Staufer stelae were designed by the sculptor Markus Wolf. The first was inaugurated in 2000 on the 750th anniversary of the death of Frederick II at Castel Fiorentino in Italy.
    Frederick II built, among other things, the Castel del Monte on a plan in the form of a regular octagon. The Castel del Monte is depicted on the reverse of the Italian 1 cent coin.
