Vandring

The "Bergische Plateau" refers to the approximately 10-hectare area of the former Wichlinghausen marshalling yard. Looking east across the green spaces, one can still see the top of the Malakow tower of the former Aug. Luhns soap factory. Around 1900, it was the largest in Germany. The Luhns soap factory was supplied by rail via this station.

Today, it is part of the Nordbahntrasse (Northern Railway Trail), and only a few information panels still commemorate its history.

New territory defines and enriches the tour to the Felderbacher Alm; only the initial section via the Schwarzbach trail through the strikingly red-illuminated Wichlinghauser Tunnel, the Nordbahn trail, and the Bergisches Plateau might seem more familiar had we been more attentive in 2023 (komoot.com/de-de/collection/1425756/-g-k-baerenstarke-touren). However, we stumbled upon the blue hour when we passed the Wichern Chapel almost unnoticed.

Currently, this extraordinary place of worship is firmly on our itinerary; the short break is a must:

"Find peace... light a candle!"
