Since Fürth was almost completely destroyed in the Thirty Years' War in 1632, with the exception of St. Michael's Church, the beautiful, surviving old houses on the Green Market date from the first half of the 17th and 18th centuries.

In addition to simple half-timbered buildings, there are sandstone houses with baroque gables, which bear witness to the boom that the city experienced in the 18th century. The baroque former inn “Zum goldenen Schwan” (Zum goldenen Schwan) with its sculpted outrigger is particularly beautiful

The "Green Market" takes its name from the vegetable market ("Green Goods") that was held on it. It is actually just a widening of the old Reichsstrasse that led through Fürth. It is located between Königstrasse and Gustavstrasse.
In July 2000 the city council decided to convert the previous thoroughfare into a traffic-free area with space for outside seating for the local restaurants. The construction work was completed in July 2004 and the square was inaugurated.

This marketplace used to be the most important square in the city. Since 2004, the square has not only beautiful half-timbered and baroque sandstone houses but also a beautiful fountain. The juggler's fountain was designed by Harro Frey and shows acrobats and artists.
