The red rocks are uniquely visible here on Heligoland. But the red rock (Buntsandstein) extends widely under the North Sea. Below is a salt rock that deforms under the high pressure of the sandstone and the sea and has pushed the sandstone layer upwards like a plug.

On the red rocks, there are 5 species of birds that breed exclusively on Heligoland... From the rocks, you can observe and photograph them fantastically. A great spectacle, not only for ornithologists.
