With its 78 km length, the Wiesent is the main river in Franconian Switzerland. It meanders leisurely through the characteristic mountain and hill landscape with its striking rock formations and caves, past castles and ruins before it flows into the Regnitz near Forchheim.

With the beginning of the romantic period, a real tourist boom began in Muggendorf. Summer freshness was the order of the day. The days of summer retreat and Belle Époque are now a thing of the past. The charm of this landscape has remained.
