The Schwentine is one of the longest rivers in Schleswig-Holstein at 68 km[3]. It rises 1.7 km southwest of the highest point in the state, the Bungsberg, on a spring meadow northeast of the village of Bergfeld (Kasseedorf) and flows through the entire Holstein Switzerland with numerous large lakes. The river flows through the towns of Eutin, Bad Malente, Plön, Preetz, Schwentinental (Raisdorf and Klausdorf) and flows into the Kiel Fjord (Baltic Sea) in Kiel between the districts of Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf and Wellingdorf.

The Schwentine is right next to the estate. In the past, you could use canoe or kayak below the bridge. Today everything was sealed with wire and signs - a shame.

The Schwentine flows through 13 smaller and larger lakes in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park (Holstein Lake District), some of whose banks form wooded hills. The surrounding area therefore offers a lot of variety when it comes to water hiking. There are many interesting water birds to see and often the sea eagle. The Schwentine flows between the lakes as a picturesque little river that delights every paddler's heart. On a canoe tour on the Schwentine, the vehicle can be taken along the entire route by train.
