The Santa Fe Trail is a historic trade route in the United States. The route, which varies between 800 and 900 miles (1300-1450 km), depending on the variant, connected the populated regions on the Missouri River through prairies and deserts with the then Mexican areas in what is now the southwest of the USA in the 19th century.
