Forter Castle is a striking fortified mansion that was built in 1560 by the Ogilvy family of Airlie. The castle was ravaged by fire in the mid-17th century and was left in a state of disrepair for many years. However, from 1988 to this present day, father and daughter duo Robert and Katharine Pooley have painstakingly restored the castle back to its former glory. Whilst visitors can’t explore the castle, you get a fine view from the road. And if you fancy some quirky accommodation, the castle can be booked. For more information, visit: fortercastle.com.

Fortyer Castle was built in 1560 by James Ogilvy, the 5th Lord of Airlie. It was burnt down in 1640.
Work started to rebuild the castle to its original outer looks in 1988. It's now a private holiday home but is also rented out occasionally and sometimes hosts weddings and events.
