The Cap San Diego belongs to the Überseebrücke, as the Rickmer Rickmers to the jetties. Both ships determine the picture of the harbor promenade. It is considered one of the most beautiful freighters in the world and reminds of the time before the invention of the container. When the port of Hamburg was still a jumble of barges, chaff and general cargo.

The Cap San Diego is a museum ship berthed at the Überseebrücke in the port of Hamburg. The ship, built in 1961, was built as a general cargo ship and was used in scheduled service to South America until the 1980s.
The motor ship Cap San Diego is the largest operational museum cargo ship in the world. It represented the high point of mechanized cargo ship construction in Germany, where a maximum expression of most of the professions developed in cargo shipping could be observed on board.
