The foundation stone was laid in 1716. The first phase of construction was completed in 1721. At the rear is a single-story addition dating from 1750, which was used as a prison. The ground floor was originally an open hall. Today, it houses an old, still-functioning clock mechanism from the St. Alexander parish church.
A new town hall extension was built in 1899. Today, the town hall contains the offices of the administration and the mayor, as well as the council chamber.
