The Ruhr Museum is the regional museum of the Ruhrgebiet. In its permanent exhibition, it tells the fascinating natural and cultural history of the region from the emergence of coal more than 300 million years ago to today's structural change to the Ruhr Metropolis. The visit of the portal of industrial culture with the film "RUHR 360 °" and the panoramic roof of the coal washing is included. Regular special exhibitions, audio guides, a museum bag for families and a varied program of guided tours, excursions, lectures and workshops for children complete the offer.

The colliery Zollverein was an active from 1851 to 1986 hard coal mine in Essen.
It is today an architectural and industrial monument. Together with the directly adjacent coking plant Zollverein, the mines 12 and 1/2/8 of the mine have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2001. Zollverein is the anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
