The Christmas market in Mainz, first documented as the Nikolose Markt in 1788, takes place from the end of November to December 23 on the historic cathedral squares around the Mainz cathedral, namely on the market with the festively decorated hay pillar, the Liebfrauenplatz and the Höfchen.

The market square in Mainz is a historic center of the city and is located directly in front of the imposing Mainz Cathedral. The square has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, when it developed into the main trading hub around 975 with the construction of the cathedral. Today, the market is known for its vibrant weekly market, held three times a week, as well as for the popular Christmas market, which takes place every year from the end of November until December 23.
