When you have climbed the strange stairs from the Wurmtal you are on the old Kohlscheid Würselen railway line. It is the trail up to the old bridge. The hiking trail leads over the bridge and leaves the railway line to continue after about 600 m at the end of an asphalt path (Gouleystrasse) to the Waldstrasse.

The hiking trail above the Teuterhof in the direction of Bardenberg is still unmistakably recognizable as a former railway line. From 1892 to 1965 (passenger traffic only until 1945) there was a rail connection from Kohlscheid to Würselen (and further towards Stolberg).

South of Herzogenrath, in the green and relatively quiet Wurmtal valley, lies a unique landscape feature: the old railway embankment and its accompanying bridge, a tangible reminder of the region's industrial and infrastructure past. This former railway line partially follows the Worm (Wurm) valley and was built to serve the mining and industrial sectors in the border region between Germany and the Netherlands.
