On the striking, towering spire there is a cross with a 3 meter high golden angel - one of the most famous symbols of St. Petersburg!
Incidentally, the Peter Paul Cathedral was the first cathedral in Russia with a carillon. Today there are supposedly at least an impressive 140 bells 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔 ...

A very special highlight: The Peter Paul Cathedral is the burial site of the Russian tsars! Almost all Russian tsars of the Romanov dynasty and their family members are buried in the cathedral and the adjacent chapel. Also Peter the Great, Catherine the Great and the last Tsar of Russia Nicholas II and his family.

The cathedral was completed by the Italian architect Domenico Trezzini after 21 years of construction in 1733. Of course, it is the oldest cathedral in the city.

Typical of the Dutch early Baroque style cathedral is its long golden spire, which is one of the city's landmarks.

The total length of the bell tower is 122.5 meters. The flying angel with a 7 meter high cross in his hand, a weathervane, crowns the gilded spire.

For a long time, the Peter-Paul Cathedral was one of the tallest buildings in the city and even in Russia.
