The interiors have been gently renovated and give the sweet specialties a dignified setting: the shop shines in a playful neo-baroque style, a bright room with an inner courtyard is immediately adjacent, the stairs lead to the Salon Rouge, the cozy tea room and the elegant Zurich Room.

Café 1842 is located in a listed building in Zurich's Niederdorf. 1842 refers to the opening year in which the Eberle bakery family laid the foundation for what would later become the Schober confectionery shop with a sweet shop. In 1874, the confectioner Theodor Schober-Wolwer took over the house and thus founded the famous cafe in the neo-baroque style. The Café and Condtorei has been run under the name “1842” since 2019.
