The water came specially from the Thuringian Forest, as the Erfurt water is very calcareous.
After the steam locomotive era, in addition to the railway, the Erfurt power plants used the water from the belly of the tower.
Two storage tanks contain 50 cubic meters of drinking water from the Erfurt Steiger and 1000 cubic meters of service water from the Lütschetalsperre near Oberhof.
