A fountain dedicated to the spirits of victims who died seeking water.
It was built in 1964 by the Hiroshima Bank and donated to the city of Hiroshima. Two layers of ponds are stacked on an oblong shape that measures 27 meters from east to west and 19 meters from north to south. The fountain, named the "Fountain of Prayer," is dedicated to the spirits of victims who died while saying "Water, water!"

Many who survived the explosion and the fire suffered from thirst and drank the radioactively contaminated black rain. The consequences were always fatal, sooner or later. This fountain is dedicated to all of them.

The fountain was donated in 1964. After the detonation of the atomic bomb many of the not immediately died victims suffered from their strong burns thirsty and called for water, until they died. The well is said to quench the thirst of these souls.
