Werner von Vlatten, named as bailiff of Nörvenich between 1366 and 1394, is likely to have lived there. In 1403 his son Wilhelm became the owner of the castle after a division; It has not yet been clarified whether this was the original structure or the new building. When the estate was divided, Wilhelm's brother Werner received a farm from which Harff'sche Burg developed two centuries later.
