Immediately after their return to Moresnet in 1895, the Franciscans decided to build a Stations of the Cross with 14 Stations of the Cross. Through elaborate landscaping, a flat meadow north of the chapel was transformed into a hilly landscape covering almost 14 acres.

The Stations of the Cross, designed like a park, are now one of the most important and impressive sites of their kind in Europe. Year after year, numerous pilgrims come here to relive the Passion of Jesus Christ in silent devotion.
