    In the shadow of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk is the
    beguinage, founded in the 13th century. After a turbulent past of
    destruction and disease, it was rebuilt in 1610. In 1763
    the renovated building was completed. In 1863 the Statiestraat was
    constructed, this cuts the beguinage in the middle. During World War II, only 's Hertogenmolens and a row of houses were spared
    stayed. The other houses were rebuilt after the war
    to original model. The restored houses serve as
    service flats for seniors
