Acorn Street was originally called Kitchen Street and was built in the 1820s. The street was later named after the acorns that grew into numerous oak trees that lined the street. Squirrels are believed to have carried the acorns from the nearby Boston Common to Beacon Hill. Today, many of the original buildings still stand on the famous cobblestone street, giving visitors the feeling of stepping back in time.
