You can also discover a lot of educational information about the origins of the city of Salzgitter along the way.The brine spa town of Salzgitter-Bad is the ideal starting point. Across the historic old town, we continue to lattice to the open-air museum. The tour leads via Hohenrode to Ringelheim along the Innerste river, which invites you to cool off in many places in summer. The Ringelheim Castle Park with the Catholic Church of St. Abdon and Sennen and the historic pigeon tower is also worth seeing before returning to the starting point.

The southeast loop of Route 31 leads mostly through small villages and rural areas over dirt roads and unpaved ground. You can ride the tour well with normal trekking bikes or mountain bikes. On the way, a manor, a castle and the Lobmachtersen water tower are waiting to be discovered by you, as is the small but fine St. Mary's Church. The focus, however, is on an undisturbed experience of nature.A worthwhile detour is the Heerter See, which can be easily circled on foot. The lake is an important bird sanctuary. Two viewing huts invite you to observe the abundant bird life.

The effort of pedaling rewards this 30-kilometer route with a variety of highlights. Along the Salzgittersee, which offers numerous opportunities for recreational activities and breaks in the large pirate playground, the tour leads to Lichtenberg Castle and the Salder Castle Museum with its Stone Age garden. On the northwest loop of Route 31 you will get to know Salzgitter from its historical side. In the Renaissance Salder Castle you will find the city museum, which brings you closer to the long and eventful history of the region. The Lichtenberg castle ruins, which are only a short detour away from our tour, are a silent witness to the medieval era. The city monument in Lebenstedt, on the other hand, tells of recent history and the crimes of the Nazi era.How good that, after so much cultural impressions, you can end your tour on the Salzgittersee with coffee and cake - or rather with beer and a hearty snack.

Pure industry - on this route, small villages alternate with the large industrial sites of Volkswagen, Salzgitter AG, MAN and Alstom. On this northeast loop of Route 31 you will get impressive insights into the large industrial landscape of Salzgitter, the lock and the Konrad shaft. The constant change between industry and rural idyll is what makes this bike tour so attractive. The almost 75 meter long insect hotel near Drütte, the stately Steterburg monastery and the surrounding, quiet villages are in stark contrast to the large industrial area that you circle around on this route.

This bike tour from the Oderwald to the Bodensteiner cliffs offers a lot of variety. The start is in Dorstadt, a place in the Wolfenbüttel district, where you can admire an old manor and monastery with an eventful, almost thousand-year history.Via many small villages, past beautiful views and many refreshment stops, you reach the Hainberge Mountains via Salzgitter, where the Bodensteiner cliffs are located. On the way, Gut Flachstöckheim and its park invite you to take a short break. A special highlight is the Klein Mahner depot, a historic train station where old railway vehicles are restored and operated. In Salzgitter you will find, among other things, the beautiful rose garden, under whose graduation tower one of the strongest natural thermal brines in Europe bubbles. The route is very varied. You drive over developed farm roads, more or less paved field and forest paths, but also short parts on county and country roads. The route is completely signposted.

In the very south of Salzgitter, this short pleasure tour keeps what its name promises. For conquering a small ascent, the Schäferstuhl rewards you with equally great views over Salzgitter-Bad and the Harz Mountains. Especially on weekends you can watch gliders and motorized planes at the airfield. If your feet and calves need to cool down afterwards, after a short descent through forest and meadows with the Plünnecken fountain, a Kneipp treading pool is ready for you. Past the Hasenspring forest restaurant, the tour then leads on to the section of the European Sculpture Trail running through Salzgitter. On the so-called Road of Peace, the large sculptures merge with the landscape and thus offer unique views - and perhaps also one or the other insight. After driving along the beautifully landscaped Salzgitter-Liebenburg golf course, the tour leads past the Mahner-Berg riding facility and finally through the Greifpark back to the starting point at the thermal brine bath.
