It was on a beautiful sunny evening on the last day of August when I set off along the river path from West Thirston to the Rigg and Furrow farmhouse brewery in Acklington.

Rising from Coquet Head in the Cheviot Hills on the Scottish border, the River Coquet flows eastwards across Northumberland to Amble on the North Sea coast.
