The town hall was inaugurated in 1950 for the 9oo year anniversary. At that time, the best artists contributed to the design of the murals and sculptures. Every year on December 10, the Norwegian king presents the Nobel Peace Prize in the town hall.

The City Hall is recognizable by its two large towers. Its construction started in 1931, but during the Second World War the works came to a standstill for a while. The building was officially inaugurated in 1950. The building, renowned for its distinctive architecture, was designed by architects Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson. Inside are beautiful frescoes and sculptures by Norwegian artists.
