In the center of the square is the statue of Lieutenant General Abraham Duquesne (1610-1688), who commanded his first ship at the age of 17. He defeated Michiel De Ruyter in 1676 and hunted pirates in the Mediterranean. Note the early 18th-century buildings at nos. 18 to 24. A plaque commemorating the chemist Descroizilles hangs at the pharmacy, to whom we owe the coffee filter (a find wrongly attributed to Abbot Belloy
