    The zoo was built in 1725 by order of Frederick William I. The soldier king had several enclosures for game, pheasants and partridges to build and used the forest area from now on as a hunting ground.

    Today the Tiergarten is a nature reserve with ancient trees and diverse vegetation divided into a western and an eastern part, separated by the Fanggraben. Hikers receive information on local flora and fauna on information boards on the nature trail and the meadow orchard.
