Kronsegg was first mentioned as "Chranzek" around 1250 as a Passau property. Towards the end of the 12th century or at the latest at the beginning of the 13th century, the castle was probably built by the Lords of Maissau. At the beginning of the 14th century, Kronsegg was a fief of the Kuenringer.
