It all began with the motorway bridge; about 30 million years ago, the sea flowed into the basin near Weinheim. At this point, there is a former beach slope, and researchers can identify the different sea levels using the bands. A sea cow (fossil - clear) has also been found here, and even impressions of ray burrows have been identified. During World War II, the caves were used to protect the population from air raids. The Trift is truly something very special.

The former sand pit gives an insight into the seabed at that time. Manatee bones were also found here,

One sees a stratification of the seabed of the Mainz Basin from the Oligocene with fossil impressions. If you let your gaze wander over the Weinheim Bay from there, you can easily imagine the height of the sea level in the tropical sea.
