A short distance upstream the Hvita squeezes through a narrow passage and forms the Barnafoss. The Barnafoss is located 200 m higher and therefore plunges down with an even greater force. This spectacle is accompanied by a hellish sound.

Here you will find the legend of the Barnafoss. The name of the waterfall, 'children's waterfall', comes from a legend. In earlier times there was a natural bridge at the site of this waterfall, which was used by the people of the area when they went to church. It is said that two children once fell from this bridge and drowned. After this tragic incident, the mother is said to have destroyed the bridge.
