The church organ was started by Arp Schnitzer between 1715 and 1719, and ended after his death by his student Lambert Daniel Kasten.
In 1905 the organ was replaced by a new one by Wilhelm Sauer

The town church of St. Laurentii in the center of Itzehoe is the town's largest sacred building. It was built from 1716 to 1718 as a baroque brick hall with a wide-spanning wooden barrel vault and replaced a two-aisled Gothic hall church that was largely destroyed in the city fire of 1657 (during the Danish-Swedish War) and was then only provisionally restored. Below the church are crypts with metal coffins of canonesses of the noble Itzehoe monastery and members of the Rantzau imperial family.
