Yürüyüş

Mardels are funnel-shaped water-bearing depressions that occur more or less regularly in the area of the lower Muschelkalk in the southwest Palatinate. Their origins have not been conclusively clarified: in the geological literature they are interpreted primarily as sinkholes that were created by local karstification in the lowest shell limestone, but they could also have been created by excavation of the clayey soil in the course of agriculture.

Grass frogs and other amphibians are said to spawn in the Mardelle near the Gersbach sports field.

Unfortunately, it was completely dried out when we visited.

You should read the explanation from Tzi or on the Internet about what mardelle are, otherwise, like me, you won't be able to properly appreciate them during the tour and will see them as a wallow for wild boars ;)
After the Mardellen the access to the gorge begins, a narrow, wild path.

One can only imagine what it used to be like. Unfortunately, there is not enough rainfall left to fill these "mardelle" hollows with water.
