Archbishop Ernst von Sachsen had the castle chapel built in 1480 as a single-nave brick chapel in the late Gothic style. The very large pointed arch windows are remarkable. The early baroque tail gables are from the 16th century. In the Thirty Years' War there was great damage, so the cross vault has been missing since that time. None of the original three altars have survived.

The castle chapel of the castle domain Wolmirstedt is the southernmost copy of the North German brick Gothic. It is a single-nave building with Renaissance gables from 1580 and 1630. It was formerly part of the ring building of the upper castle and has only been free-standing since the 19th century. Already since 1640, this chapel was used only as a storage room. After static backups, it has been used for events since 1995. The original ribbed vaults have collapsed, but remains of the murals are preserved.

We were very fortunate that a wedding was taking place at the time. We took our time to look around and were able to peek into the castle chapel. It's a very impressive building.
