Earlier, when Urk was still an island, you needed short narrow streets called ginkies. There, however, was also a lot of mischief. For example, hungry youths stole the stew out of the houses on Saturday evenings for the next day and quickly disappeared through the ginkies. But even in serious situations, such as fires, they served as fast escape routes. With the help of a guide you will hear a lot about the history of the fishing village during the tour through the ginkies and get an impression of the many small alleys.
