The Gerhard Struve monument is located on the grounds of the Former Educational Institute Struveshof, today's State Institute for Schools and Media Berlin-Brandenburg, opposite the farm building, where today the canteen is located. As Berlin city council, he was responsible for the Rieselfelder to Berlin and was committed to socially vulnerable young people and children.

Around 1900 the Berlin city administration began to set up educational institutions for orphans and neglected children outside the city. In 1914, the construction of the Landerziehungsheim of the city of Berlin in Struveshof began. The home was inaugurated three years later. It was intended to house boys between the ages of 12 and 18 and was supposed to be self-sufficient through its own farm.
