The castle looks fantastic from every angle!
The moated castle was built in the 13th century and was the ancestral seat of the Knights of Bergerhausen. Around 1320, the brothers of Bergerhausen sold part of the property to the Mariengradenstift (St. Mary's Abbey) in Cologne. The Archbishops of Cologne acquired the lordship to defend their territory.
In 1334, Archbishop Walram granted Bergerhausen Castle to the knight Hans-Ulrich von Bergerhausen in recognition of services rendered.
Around 1430, his descendants fortified the castle with strong fortifications.
