The name of the place Kappelrodeck goes back to a small chapel which stood near the Acherbrücke and St. Nicholas was consecrated. In its place today stands the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Nicholas.

The Catholic parish church of Kappelrodeck is popularly known as the "Achertäler Dom". In the 11th century, near the current church, a small chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas was built. This chapel, together with the Röder family of knights, also gave the town of Kappelrodeck its name.
