The alignment of the church has an interesting history. The entrance is there because the side facing the Isar was more beautiful at the time it was built. So it came about that the church turned its back on its congregation and the entrance side is also very noisy due to the many cars and is no longer so attractive.

The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Lukas, also called Lukaskirche, was the third Evangelical Lutheran church building in Munich. The church was built from 1893 to 1896 according to plans by Albert Schmidt. St. Lukas is the only almost completely preserved Protestant church of historicism in Munich. Due to its soaring crossing dome, the two side towers and its overwhelming interior, it is also known as the "Protestant cathedral".
