Fantastic running along the Longdendale Trail. It can get busy at times so try and visit off-peak.

The Woodhead reservoir took 30 years to construct although it was the first of the chain of reservoirs to be started, it was the last to be completed.

Woodhead Reservoir has been supplying water from the River Etherow to residents of Greater Manchester since 1877. The reservoir was constructed by John Frederick Bateman and took 30 years to complete due to construction problems. Today, the Reservoir continues to be a vital water source and recreational area. The area is popular with cyclists and hikers as the Longdendale Trail runs along its banks.
