Servite Monastery
In the heart of Koper's historic city center lies an abandoned and largely overlooked building—an architectural gem of exceptional historical value. Perched on a rocky plateau overlooking the old harbor, it dates back to the 12th century. In 1135, a small group of Benedictine monks settled near St. Martin's Church and founded a small monastic community. The Benedictines survived until 1380, when their community was destroyed in a violent attack by the Genoese, who were at war with Venice.

The monastery was built in 1492 and dissolved in 1786. It then housed first a military hospital and later a municipal hospital. After World War II (until 1997), it served as a maternity hospital with a gynecology department. Later, pediatric and pathology departments were added.
This monastery is one of the largest building complexes in Koper. The Gothic-Renaissance Stations of the Cross are particularly interesting, but the 16th-century church burned down.
Although it is a cultural monument of national importance, the building has long been empty pending renovation and is not open to visitors due to its poor condition.
